Formidable Pondicherry Crushes Sikkim

Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2019-20 : CAP Vs Sikkim (SLIMS Cricket Ground)

Puducherry, 07 Oct’19:
Shashank and Shreeraj shine with the bat:
The consistency of Pondicherry opener Shashank and no.3 batsman Shreeraj laid the foundation for a big total against Sikkim in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy match played at SLIMS Cricket Ground, Puducherry. Put into bat first, Pondicherry started with a shock when Aryab Bangar was dismissed for 4, the second wicket partnership of 153 runs between opener Shashank and Shreeraj led the team to setting up a comfortable total.

With great responsibility to steady the ship, Shashank and Shreeraj worked out singles and twos initially and then continued the innings with free flow of strokes. Shashank scored a well compiled 67 off 110 balls with six fours and Shreeraj remained the top scored with 79 off 114 balls with nine fours and one six.

Arbaaz Uddin, Shakeer and Vinay Pratap Singh on the rampage:
After the dismissal of Shashank when the score was reading 169 for 3 in the 37th over, Arbaaz Udding and Shakeer went on the rampage for the fourth wicket. Shakeer made a quick fire 56 off 33 balls with six fours and two sixes while his partner Arbaaz Uddin scored 33 off 20 balls with six boundaries. After the loss of Arbaaz Uddin, it was the turn of Vinay Pratap Singh to carry on from where Arbaaz Udding left. Vinay Pratap Singh fired on cylinders to score a quick fire 39 off 15 balls with five fours and two sixes, which led Pondicherry to post a total of 297 for 4 off the allotted 50 overs.

Sikkim too started like Pondicherry, losing the opener Rahul Kumar for 4. But, the recovery was not good enough to reach the target as the wickets fell at regular interval. With good support from the other end, Arbaaz Uddin struck frequently and returned with figures of 4 for 16 off 9.3 overs. Vinay Pratap Singh returned with figures of 3 for 26 and Aryan Bangar took 2 for 28. With only one batsman Anwesh scoring 40 off 59 balls, there was no resistance from Sikkim and were all out for 113 off 35.3 overs and Pondicherry won the match by 184 runs.
