Paras Dogra and K.B.Arun Karthick’s Centuries Lead Pondicherry to Resounding Innings Victory Against Sikkim in Ranji Clash

Ranji Trophy 2019-20 : Pondicherry Vs Sikkim (CAP Ground-2)

Puducherry, 17-20 Dec’19:
Veteran Paras Dogra and experienced K.B.Arun Karthick executed their plan of seizing the opportunity to put up a big total against the small first innings score of Sikkim in the Ranji Trophy match played at CAP Ground-2, Puducherry.

Devastating spell of Vinay Kumar and Sagar Trivedi:
As skipper Rohit opted to field after winning the toss and tossed the ball to the bowling veteran Vinay Kumar, the top order of Sikkim was in all sorts of trouble when he dismissed the opener Faizan Khan for 2 and the attack from the other end by Sagar Trivedi was so lethal that he consumed three of the four wickets that fell with the score standing still at 31. As the attack from Vinay Kumar who returned with figures of 4 for 25 from the other end was also equally deadly, Sagar Trivedi returned with figures of 5 for 20 off 8.3 overs, Skkim was bundled out for 65 in their first innings.

Paras & KB seize the opportunity for big lead
In reply, to a paltry score of 65 of Sikkim in their first innings, though Pondicherry opener Anand Subramanian departed early; dismissed for 9 runs, K.B.Arun Karthick pushed the score in the company of S.Karthik, as the pair took the score to 57 for 2 when the latter was out for 35. Then, the partnership of 226 runs between K.B.Arun Karthick and Paras Dogra gave a glimpse of possible innings victory if the lead could be swelled further.

Centuries guide the rest
The centuries scored by Paras Dogra, who scored 117 off 140 balls with 13 fours and three sixes; and K.B.Arun Karthick, who scored 112 off 154 balls with twelve boundaries, guided the rest of the batsmen to build a big lead. This led Fabid Ahmed to score 50 off 70 balls and the all-rounder Vinay Kumar to make a quick fire 54 off 40 balls while Sagar Trivedi scored 40 off 32 balls and Pondicherry declared their first innings with the score 446 for 8 and a lead of 381 runs. Sikkim bowler Ishwar Coudhary returned with figures of 5 for 145.

Sikkim submerged in ‘Sagar’
Beginning their second innings with a deficit of 381 runs, Sikkim was pushed to the wall with the lively spells of Sagar V Trivedi, who returned with figures of 3 for 25 to take his tally to 8 wickets in the match and Sagar P Udeshi, who returned with 4 for 21 off 8 overs, shared seven wickets between them and restricted Sikkim to 112 all out and led Pondicherry to a resounding innings victory with a margin of 269 runs and to gain 7 points.
