CAP trounces Mizoram in an innings victory to register their first outright victory in the Ranji Trophy

The Pondicherry senior men’s team showed evidences of potential as they beat Mizoram by an innings and 238 runs. This victory will go down as CAP’s first outright victory ever, making it doubly special.

Mizoram’s innings was wrapped up in 55 overs on the 1st day of the match at a meagre 92 runs. At the end of the first day, CAP was 163/3 with a healthy lead of 71 runs and 7 wickets in hand. The weather conditions threatened to play spoilsport for the rest of the days of play, however, only one day’s play was lost. Resuming their innings on the 3rd day CAP notched up a mammoth 371/9 before they declared the innings. Opener M. Vignesh and off-spinner allrounder Fabid Ahmed scored 102 and 103 n.o respectively.

Pondicherry captain Rohit Damodaren put Mizoram in to bat with a healthy lead of 283 runs. The Mizoram batting line-up succumbed to some sharp bowling from Pankaj Singh, Abhishek Nayar and off spinner Fabid Ahmed.
Pankaj Singh returned with the figures of 9.3 overs,4 maidens, 15 runs, 4 wickets, with an economy rate of 1.58, has a tally of 11 wickets for 36 runs in the match while Fabid Ahmed with figures of 12 overs, 6 maidens, 8 runs and 4 wickets with an economy rate of 0.67.

Fabid Ahmed, the centurion with 103 n.o. is the “Man of the Match” with total of 6 wickets for 22 runs in the match.
