Puducherry ends 2018 with a Cakewalk over Manipur

On the second day of the Ranji Trophy match against Manipur, played at Rural Development Trust Stadium, Ananthapur, Puducherry had a cakewalk to register a 10 wicket victory in less than two days.

Resuming the second day’s play at 150 for 2, Puducherry immediately lost skipper Rohit for 26, but M.Viknesh, who scored 37 off 68 balls with 4 fours and one six and Fabid Ahmed 41 off 72 balls with 4 fours, took the team past 200 mark and were all out for 238 off 78.2 overs. For Manipur, Th Kishan with 4 for 65 off 19.2 overs and Bisworjit 3 for 48 off 19 overs were among the wickets.

However, Manipur failed to capitalise the situation and started their second innings with their opener Prafullamoni dismissed for naught. Skipper Yashpal Singh scored a valiant 52 off 83 balls with 5 fours and one six, but could only watch the wickets falling at the other end and were all out for 118 off 31.5 overs.

In the second innings of Manipur, Pankaj Singh removed Hrithik Kanojia the to begin his wicket taking spree and returned with 4 for 20 off 12.5 overs, with Puducherry skipper Rohit, who returned with 3 for 22 off 3 overs, joined Pankaj to cast a web over the opponents to finish the match before the close of second day. Puducherry scored the required 13 runs off 1.1 overs and won the match by 10 wickets to gain 7 points. With this win, Puducherry stands at no.2 position on the points table with 32 points.
