Puducherry registered one of it’s roaring innings victories against Mizoram in the Cooch Behar Trophy (for Under-19) match played at Palmyra Cricket Ground, Puducherry. Having won the toss, Puducherry chose to bat first. The openers Sanjay and Sugadev laid a solid foundation and took the score to 84 when they were separated with the dismissal of Sanjay, out for 28 off 81 balls. The second wicket partnership was worth 83 runs and when the score was 167, Arbazz Uddin was out for 39 off 62 balls. Sugadev and Logesh had a good partnership of 70 runs for the fifth wicket. Logesh was out for 54 off 96 balls with 6 fours. As Sugadev was retired hurt and could not continue his innings, with little resistance from the tail enders Puducherry ended the first innings at 333 for 9 off 89 overs. For Mizoram, Dina took 7 wickets for 71 runs off 25 overs and Lalruatfela took 2 wickets for 31 runs off 8 overs.
Well-crafted century by Sugadev
Puducherry opener Sugadev played a stellar innings with a well-crafted century laid the foundation for the roaring innings victory for his team against Mizoram. Sugadev’s was retired hurt when he was on 107 off 130 balls, with 17 fours and 2 sixes.
Mizoram started their first innings disastrously as both the openers were out with only six runs on the board. With only Sahil (24 off 41 ballas) and Debojyoti Chanda (20 off 45 balls) displayed some resistance and ultimately Mizoram were all out for 102 off 35.2 overs.
Arbazz Uddin and Aryan Bangar’s fifer rattle Mizoram
In the first innings of Mizoram, Puducherry’s rookie Arbazz Uddin returned with a haul of 5 wickets for 32 runs off 11 overs, with an economy rate of 2.91, which rattled Mizoram. Arbazz was well supported by Aryan Bangar (2 for 19 off 11.2 overs). In the second innings of Mizoram, it was Aryan Bangar’s turn, who took 5 for 26 off 13 overs with an economy rate of 2.00 and this time Arbazz Uddin, who took 3 for 15 off 9.3 overs, supported his team mate Bangar.
With a deficit of 231 runs, Mizoram lost their way in the second innings also as the openers were dismissed again cheaply and with that, it was the hunt for Puducherry bowlers. Except Lalhriatrenga, who scored 43 off 49 balls with 8 hits to the fence, none of the Mizoram batsmen could resist Puducherry bowlers who were on wicket taking spree, and the visitors were bowled out for 87 off 31.3 overs. As the bowlers Aryan Bangar (5 for 26), Arbazz Uddin (3 for 15) and the skipper Rishab Belavadi (2 for 31) shared the wickets among themselves, Puducherry won the match by an innings and 144 runs with two days to spare.
