While for the Pondicherry state team played its first the Ranji Trophy game at the CAP Siechem Ground between 12 – 15 Nov 18 is the first match, this is also the 100th Ranji Trophy match for Abhishek Nayar, who has played 99 Matches for Mumbai team.
Abhishek Nayar accepted the invitation to play for Pondicherry to imbibe all his experience and knowledge to the youngsters of Pondicherry team and hence this happens to be his 100th appearance in the Ranji Trophy. He was felicitated for this fete by Mr V.Narayanasamy, Hon. CM Pondicherry on the first day of the match at CAP Siechem Ground in the presence of Mrs Padma Damodaren & Damodaren along with the invitees which includes a few Legistive Members of Pondicherry (Secretary of Pondicherry, Mr V Chandran, DIG of police Pondicherry accompanied by other officials).
Abhishek was also welcomed on to the field by this teammate with fire crackers spraying sparkles and bouquet presented by the team members and support staff.
After inaugurating the CAP Siechem Cricket Ground and the Pavilion the Hon. Chief Minister of Pondicherry Mr V.Narayanasamy handed over the special 100th First-class cap for Abhishek nayar.
A grand felicitation was organised by Mr. Damodaren which was attended by Indian Wicket keeper Dinesh Karthick and Deepika Pallikal Indian squash champion along with their family members.
The program was hosted by young and dynamic Ms Pooja Damodaren, introducing the guest & dignitaries with her own free style.
Speaking on the occasion Dinesh Karthick recalled his memories playing against Mumbai and particularly the guiding nature of Abhishek whenever any cricketer approached him for any improvement or identifying the mistakes for corrections. He also lavishly priced Abhishek for being very kind to anybody and everybody; going out of the way to help others. He further narrated the soft skills of Abhishek in many fields such as physio therapy, architecture, cooking, painting etc.,
Speaking on the occasion the Pondicherry skipper Rohit expressed his happiness to have Abhishek in the Ranji team which will go a long way in nurturing the budding inexperienced cricketers from Pondicherry and also sharing his vast experience and knowledge with the regular players with whom he has already rubbed shoulders. Rohit also stated that youngsters from Pondicherry should inherit the qualities of Abhishek.
Ms Deepika Pallikal Indian Squash campion presented a surprise and rich audio visual on Abhishek which contains a few childhood pics of him and Mumbai team mates like Rohit Sharma,Siddhesh Lad, Aavishkar M Salvi, OnkarJagannath Khanvilkar , Dishant Yagnik and few of his friends wishing him on the occasion of his 100th appearance in Ranji Trophy.
The Right Honour
Ms Padma Damodaren & Mr Damodaren gave the final touch of the felicitation by jointly presenting him a memento for his achievement of playing the 100th match in the Ranji Trophy, which is coincidentally the first match for Pondicherry state Ranji team and Abhishek Nayar as well.
