Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 : CAP Vs Bengal (BKC Ground)
Mumbai, 17 Nov’19:
Free flow of delightful shots from Pondicherry skipper D.Rohit’s bat completely silenced the opponent Bengal attack in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match played at BKC Ground, Mumbai.
Put into bat, Bengal started with early loss of opener Shreevats Goswami for 2, dismissed by Fabid Ahmed. However, the steady progress stemmed the rot until the 15th over when the score was 99 for 4 and from thereon Pondicherry bowlers kept the rest of Bengal batsmen under check and restricted them to 132 for 7 off the allotted 20 overs with Pondicherry bowler Suresh Kumar taking 4 for 17 off 4 overs and presenting skipper Rohit an easy target of 133 for a win.
Rohit’s Beligerent Batting – A Delight to Watch:
As the much needed opening partnership coming good at much need time, Vikneshwaran Marimuthu and Rohit realised 43 for the first wicket when the former was out for 10 in the sixth over. With good support from middle order, skipper Rohit despatched Bengal attack to all parts of the ground with lovely lofted shots over long-on and long-off for huge sixes and well-timed hit over the mid-wicket for couple of sixes against Bengal’s spinner. The perfect despatch of Bengal’s pacers to the point boundary and third man were simply a delight to watch until he was dismissed for 55 off 44 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, which gives the much needed confidence to the top order as the team expects Rohit to carry his form through.
After Rohit’s departure, Suresh Kumar (16 off 16 balls) and Vinay Kumar remaining unbeaten on 15 off six balls, Pondicherry finished with the score of 137 for 6 with two balls to spare and won the match.
