In less than two days, Puducherry has won the match against Arunachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy played at D.N.Singha Stadium, Goalpara. Arunachal Pradesh, who won the toss and put Puducherry into bat, were straight away in action by packing the top half of the opponents just for 55 runs on the board. Deendayal, the main striker, took 3 wickets of the first five wickets, with Licha Tehi and Doria taking one each and went on to finish 4 for 36. With only Fabid Ahmed scoring 41 off 59 ball, Puducherry were all out for 136 in the first innings.
However, the fall of wickets continued when Arunachal Pradesh started their first innings, when Fabid Ahmed opened the flood gates by dismissing the opener Samarth Seth. With little resistance from the rest of the team Arunachal Pradesh were all out for 82. Fabid Ahmed finished the first innings of Arunachal Pradesh with figures of 6 for 29 off 16.5 overs with 7 maidens and an economy rate of 1.72 while Pankaj Singh took 3 for 20 off 12 overs.
In the second innings, Puducherry once again started disastrously and staring at 40 for 4 at which point skipper Rohit (29 off 38 balls) joined Paras Dogra to steady the ship and had a partnership of 43 runs for the fifth wicket.
Vital Partnership for the 5th wicket
For the fifth wicket, Paras Dogra was joined by Fabid Ahmed and their partnership was worth 213 runs in. Paras Dogra scored a fluent century with almost run a ball rate to score 139 off 143 balls with 19 fours and one six, who was ably supported by Fabid Ahmed, who scored 88 runs off 132 balls with 9 boundaries. Pankaj Singh also was among runs with a vital 27 off 24 balls, which enabled Puducherry to finish their second innings at 351. For Arunachal Pradesh, Deendayal took 4 for 63 and Techi Neri 3 for 76.
With a target of 406 for a win with more than two days of play left, Arunachal Pradesh started their second innings also disastrously and at one stage were 8 wickets down for 46. In the second innings Pankaj Singh consumed the openers off his first 3 overs, who ultimately returned with figures of 5 for 25 off 9.1 overs. In an unexpected move, skipper Rohit returned with the figures of 4 for 7 off five overs with 4 of which were maiden overs, at an economy rate of 1.40. With the wickets falling regularly, Arunachal Pradesh were all out for 71 and lost the match by a big margin of 334 runs.
With this win, Puducherry has 24 points off 5 matches in the plate group.
