Choosing to bat first after winning the toss against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy played at Air-force Complex Ground, New Delhi, the advantage of setting target to the opponent was lost with the fall of two early wickets. Third wicket partnership of 57 runs between Paras Dogra (32 off 33) balls and Thalaivan Sargunam (29 off 39 balls) was not sufficient to set a fighting target as the middle order could not launch an attack and Puducherry was 101 for 6 off 20 overs. Maharashtra bowler D.M.Hinganekar took 4 for 19.
In spite of Pankaj Singh’s early blow to Maharashtra by dismissing the opener and no.3 batsmen cheaply in the third over, R.D.Gaikwad (55 off 44 balls) and N.S.Shaikh (44 off 37 balls) took the team to safety as Maharashtra scored 105 for 2 off 15.4 overs and won the match by 8 wickets.
