In the Womens Cricket U-19 One Day league and Knockout tournament match played between Puducherry and Meghalaya at Sela Qui International School, Dehradun, the “never say die” character of Puducherry bowlers was a whisker short as the total they had to defend was just 102 runs. The patient knock of no.3 batsman Sumit Dutta, who remained unbeaten on 49 off 102 balls, did not find the expected support from the other end as the wickets were falling regularly at the other end. Puducherry was 101 all out off 38 overs.
Extras, the top scorer
In defending the small total, Puducherry bowlers kept the opponent under pressure by dismissing the top order early with the scoring 33 for 3 in the 25th over. The fourth wicket partnership of 44 runs was vital between Rubi Chetri (15 off 58 balls) and Sanchita (22 off 43 balls). However, extras being the top scorer with 42, Meghalaya was 102 for 9 off 47.3 overs to win the match by one wicket and to gain 4 points. Puducherry bowler Divya Shanmugam took 3 for 9 off 4 overs, while Sumi Dutta took 2 for 17 and Ananya Halder took 2 for 20.
