Aryan Bangar’s All-Round Performance Paves Way – Innings Victory for Pondicherry Against Sikkim

Pondicherry all-rounder Aryan Bangar’s 8 wicket haul and half century paved way for innings victory against Sikkim in the Cooch Behar Trophy match played at CAP Ground-2, Pondicherry.

Put into bat, Sikkim was in all sorts of trouble against Pondicherry attack, led by Aryan Bangar, who took 4 for 33 and Rajaram taking 3 for 8, which led Sikkim to 130 all out in the first innings.

In reply, Pondicherry top order simply set an example, but for the opening partnership which was broken early when Vuppula V. Sourab departed for 12 as the rest displayed the art of building an innings by consuming enough time and deliveries. The second wicket partnership of 139 runs between opener Shashank, who scored 63 off 135 balls with 10 boundaries and one six, and the no.3 batsman Shreeraj scoring 80 off 116 balls with 13 boundaries set a solid base. After the departure of both Shashank and Shreeraj in quick succession, there was a partnership of 84 runs between Aryan Bangar, who scored at a fairly good speed to score 52 off 66 balls and Sugadev (36 off 102 balls). However, there was a lovely knock of another half century by Arbaaz Uddin, who scored a valuable 67 off 92 balls with 10 boundaries in the company of the tail enders to take Pondicherry to 347 all out with a lead of 217 runs. For Sikkim Robin Limboo took 3 for 49.

Starting with a first innings deficit of 217 runs, Sikkim succumbed to the pressure and did not perform any better than the first innings. After Arbaaz Uddin and Nithish Kumar removed the openers, Aryan Bangar tightened the noose and ran away with the next four wickets to return with 4 for 46 off 30 overs and to finish with a tally of 8 for 79 in the match; while the skipper Arbaaz Uddin returned with 3 for 32. As Sikkim was all out for 137 in their second innings, Pondicherry won the match by an innings and gained 7 points.
