The dream performance by Pondicherry left arm spinner Atchayan against Andhra Red in the M.S.K.Prasad Trophy, played at Dr.Gokaraju Laila Gangaaraju ACA Cricket Ground, Vijayawada, was the spotlight of the tournament with 6 for 23 in the first innings and 5 for 28 in the second innings of Andhra Red batting. The Pondicherry boy returned with a tally of 11 for 51 in the match, which is really a matchless performance and probably would stay in his memory for long.
Andhra Red, who chose to bat first, was routed out by Atchayan with 6 for 23 in the first innings, which was capitalised by Pondicherry batsmen in reply with good confidence. With R.Raghavan scoring a patient 37 off 92 balls and M.K.Arun Sarwan scoring 28 off 88 balls, Pondicherry was all out for 182 with a vital lead of 46 runs.
Atchayan’s striking 5 wicket haul again in the match:
Following the six wicket haul in the first innings, Atchayan proved to be a difficult bowler to handle for Andhra Red batsmen. Atchayan struck frequently again to return with 5 for 28 in the match and took his tally to a dream haul of 11 wickets in the match and was declared “Best Bowler of the Series” for his total tally of 20 wickets in the series.
Pondicherry won the match on the basis of first innings lead.
