Kadappa, 25 Feb’20:
With a good bowling and fielding Pondicherry U-19 Women’s team controlled the opponent Nagaland with only 124 runs to defend and won the match by 14 runs in the Womens U-19 One Day Trophy played at KORM College Ground, Kadappa.
After starting cautiously to take the score to 26 for 1 when opener Nithya was dismissed for 10, the middle order could not take advantage of it to build a big total as the wickets were falling at regular interval. From 97 for 5 in the 28th over, the sudden slump ended the Pondicherry innings with the score 124 all out in the 40th over. Nagaland bowler Gunjan took 3 for 28.
In pursuit of a moderate target of 125 for a win, Nagaland started well and was going smoothly till they lost their first wicket when Nabila was dismissed for 13 with the score showing 31 for 1, which was well carried on by skipper Antima Teotia, who scored 27 off 62 balls before being run out and Nagaland found itself in deep trouble with the score of 89 for 5 and from there on, the moderate target became a tough one, as expected, the tail-enders could not withstand the pressure and with no partnership developing, Nagaland was all out for 110 off 48.3 overs, thanks to the good fielding effort resulting in three run outs, Pondicherry bowler Heena Hotchandani took 2 for 14 and Subiktsha took 2 for 18. Defending a moderate total of 124, Pondicherry won by 14 runs and gained 4 points.
