Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 : CAP Vs Mumbai (Wankhede Stadium)
Mumbai, 12 Nov’19:
After winning the toss, domestic giants Mumbai was put into bat by Pondicherry and Mumbai proceeded as it was expected to against the one year old state in the domestic cricket circuit in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match played at Wankhede Stadium. Though the initial breakthrough came only in the sixth over with Mumbai score showing 48 for 1, Pondicherry bowlers displayed good skill until Shereyas Iyer was dismissed in the 14th over when Mumbai score was 101 for 3 in the 14th over; and after that, the experienced Mumbai middle order took the score to 171 for 6.
In reply, Pondicherry started with the target of 172 for a win and with the top order batting woe surfacing; the chase was not given up against the domestic giant. As long as Paras Dogra was at the middle, Pondicherry had the hope to spring a surprise, but, after his dismissal in the 14th over, the lower order could only manage to keep the score board ticking and ended up with the score of 144 for 7 and lost the match by 27 runs. Paras Dogra scored a fighting 45 off 35 balls and Anand Subramanian scored 39 off 31 balls.
