The first ever Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament of Cricket Association of Pondicherry, conducted for the year 2020 from 11th to 18th February, 2020 at Karasur Cricket Ground, Pondicherry, comes to an end with the Sharadha Gangadhar College winning the championship in the final played against Pondicherry University.
The tournament was competed among 28 teams from different colleges of all disciplines such as engineering, medical, arts and science participating in the first edition, which was earlier inaugurated by Mr.Theeppainthan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Osudu.
In the final, Pondicherry University batted first and put up a fighting total of 197 for 7 off 30 overs. Pondicherry University batsman A.K.Arjun played a vital role and scored 53 off 50 balls as their innings was also equally well started by openers M.Ravikumar (44 off 25 balls) and Santhosh Priyan (27 off 34 balls).
Set a target of 198 to win the first edition of the tournament, though Sharadha Gangadhar College opener Manishkumar was dismissed for 4, his partner R.Aravind Raj played a belligerent innings before he was retired-hurt after reaching his century (100 off 70 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes), no.3 batsman A.Kamaleeshwaran scored 40 off 39 balls and G.Sunil Kumar remained unbeaten on 42 of 41 balls to lead his team to victory and grab the championship trophy 2020. J.Tharun, captain of SG College received the trophy.
Sponsor, Mrs.Padma Damodaren, Chairman, Siechem Technologies Pvt. Ltd., presented the Championship Trophy to the winning captain Aravind Raj of Sharadha Gangadhar College and the Runners Trophy to Vivek R, captain of Pondicherry University. K.Iyannar of Kanchimamunivar Center for Post Graduate Studies & Research, awarded “Best All-rounder” and A.Kamaleeshwaran of S.G. College was awarded “Player of the Tournament”. From the Cricket Association of Pondicherry, Mr.V.Chandran, Hony. Secretary, the Co-ordinators of CAP Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament Mr.Ram Mohan Singh and Mr.Raju Mehta were also present on the occasion.
