The Cooch Behar Trophy for Under-19 between Puducherry and Utharkhand being played at Highlanders Sports Academy, Kashipur, witnessed a leather hunt by Utharkhand batsmen against the blunt bowling attack of Puducherry and reached 490 for 2 at stumps on the first day of the match. Puducherry won the toss and put Utharkhand into bat only to be surprised by the whirlwind knock of 187 by Avneesh Sudha, who scored an easy 189 off 231 balls with 18 fours and 3 sixes in the company of the opener Sanyam, who remained unbeaten on 276 off 301balls as the second wicket partnership was worth 433 runs.
On the second day, the weather did not change for Puducherry as Utharkhand batsmen continued their hunt with more vigour and in that process Sanyam scored 347 runs off 385 deliveries with 51 fours and 5 sixes with a strike rate of 90.13. Sanyam was well supported by Gaurav Joshi, who scored 101 off 160 deliveries with 13 fours and one six and Utharkhand declared their first innings at 664 for 3 off 135 overs.
Poor start by Puducherry
Facing a massive total of 664 by Utharkhand, Puducherry were in a poor state of mind probably due to the massive total against them and were 84 for 7 at one stage and eventually all out for 112 off 40.1 overs in the first innings. For Puducherry the only batsman to score a respectable individual score was Logesh, who scored 40 off 77 balls with 5 fours and one six. For Utharkhand Janmejay returned with 4 for 28 off 11.1 overs and S.Juyal 3 for 16 off 8 overs, while Irfan took 2 for 14 off 8 overs.
Following on with the first innings deficit of 552 runs, Puducherry was 16 no loss at stumps on day two.
