Cooch Behar Trophy – 2019-20 : Pondicherry Vs Nagaland (Siechem Stadium)
Pondicherry, 04-07 Jan’20:
Seizing the opportunity to bowl first when the bowlers are among the wickets has become the habit of Pondicherry U-19 bowlers. Nagaland chose to bat first and was going slow against an effective attack of Pondicherry till the tenth over in the Cooch Behar Trophy match played at Siechem Stadium, Puducherry. After losing the opener Vipul Kapoor for 6, skipper Hem (26 off 37 balls) and Yugandhar, who score a patient 66 off 130 balls to show a stern resistance when the team was collapsing, brought some respectability. However, for the 7th wicket, there was a partnership of 61 runs between Yugandhar and Tepuchiba (16 off 54 balls) which retrieved the team from a poor position of 6 for 49 to 7 for 110 and Nagaland was all out for 127 in the first innings. Pondicherry bowler Aryan Bangar took 3 for 28 off 16.3 overs while the Pondichery lad Pooviarasan and Arbaaz Uddin claimed two wickets each.
Though Pondicherry did not have a smooth start as one of the openers Mohanraghul and No.3 batsman Shreeraj were back in the pavilion for 2 and 3 respectively, rest of the batting line up took control of the proceeding with small partnerships. Arbaaz Uddin was the top scorer with 66 off 150 balls, well supported by Aryan Bangar (37), Shashank (21), Sabari (23) and Poovisarasan (22). Pondicherry was all out for 247 with a lead of 120 runs.
In the second innings of Nagaland, but for the second wicket partnership of 43 runs between Afazal (25), and Vedansh (20) and a little resistance by Vipul Kapoor (27) the rest withered and was eventually bundled out for 113. Aryan Bangar returned with figures of 5 for 25 with the match tally of 8 wickets and Arbaaz Uddin took 3 wickets to take his match tally to 5 wickets. Pondicherry won the match by an innings and 7 runs and gained 7 points to remain on top of the points table.
