Neyan Kangayan’s Century goes in Vain, Pondicherry Loses to Karnataka

Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2021-22: CAP Vs Karnataka (SS Cricket Commune)

Indore, 30 Sep’21:
It was a good beginning for Pondicherry U-19 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2021-22 clash against Karnataka, played at SS Cricket Commune, Indore, as the opening partnership realized 107 runs in the 22nd over after being put in to bat.

Long gap does not affect the natural talent
Pondicherry opener Neyan Kangayan showed that the pandemic did not have any impact on his batting form as he scored the first century of the season 2021-22 for Pondicherry as he reached 50 off 53 balls and went on to score his first century of the season when he reached 103 off 109 balls with 14 fours and one six. His partner Shashank provided a solid support from the other end with a score of 36 off 61 balls in the process of 107 runs opening partnership.

The second-wicket partnership between Neyan Kangayan and R.Jashwanth Shreeram realized 65 runs off 12.3 overs when the latter was run out for 31 off 38 balls. But, the slump started here as the in-form batsman Neyan Kangayan was dismissed for 103 when the score was 173, after which not much could be done by the rest as Pondicherry put on 214 for 6 off 40 overs.

Defending the score of 214, Pondicherry bowlers started well to put pressure on Karnataka by dismissing both the openers with the score reading 36 for 2. However, the bowlers could not put pressure on Karnataka batsmen as they went on scoring freely with their middle-order batsmen R.Smaran scoring 52 off 45 balls, S.Chaithanya scoring 51 off 55 balls, and the no.5 batsman N.A.Chinmay remaining unbeaten on 43 off 51 balls, which took Karnataka to reach 216 for 5 off 35.3 overs and to win the match by five wickets.
