Vijay Hazare Trophy (2020-21): Himachal Pradesh Vs Pondicherry (Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground)

Having chosen to bat first against Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash, played at Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground, Jaipur, it was a shocking start for Pondicherry as the top half of the batting was back in the pavilion with the score reading 48 for 5 in the fourteenth over, except no.3 batsman Sheldon Jackson fighting the battle alone with a ray of hope for some support from the rest.
The 102 run partnership between Sheldon Jackson and Sagar Trivedi, took Pondicherry to a comfortable breathing level. The century partnership realised in 20 overs was broken when Sagar Trivedi, who scored a very vital 51 off 67 balls with four boundaries and a six, was bowled by D.B.Rangi.
Sheldon Jackson – the man with composure leads with responsibility
Having realised 102 runs in the company of Sagar Trivedi, being one of the senior players in the team, Sheldon Jackson reposed faith in the next man Prem and went on the rotate the strike to give confidence to the new man in as the seventh wicket partnership realised 71 runs quickly. Prem scored a valuable 26 runs off 29 balls and after his departure it was time for Sheldon Jackson to push the score and in the process he registered his second century of the season. Sheldon Jackson was the last man out with a flawless 102 off 141 balls when Pondicherry reached 227 for 9 off 50 overs. For Himachal Pradesh, R.R.Dhawan returned with figures of 4 for 44 off 10 overs.
Chasing a target of 228 for a win, Himachal Pradesh lost the opener Chopra for 4 when the score was 6 and the no.3 batsman Kumar for 6 with the score showing 22 for 2. From thereon, Himachal lost wickets at regular interval and was eventually bundled for 123 all out off 34.5 overs. Sagar Udeshi returned with figures of 4 for 35 off 9.5 overs, with good support from Vignesh Kannan, who returned with 3 for 30 as Pondicherry won by 104 runs.
