The unbeaten Century against Mizoram by Puducherry skipper Sandhya Mounika brings in lot of cheers and also the hope that the team’s batting is gaining momentum after a period of lull.
After choosing to bat first in the Womens Cricket U-23 One Day League, played at Ravenshaw University Ground-1, Cuttack, dismissal of Puducherry opener Ramya Maharajan for a duck was a disastrous start. The second wicket partnership between opener Moumee Sasmal and No.3 batsman Reena was on the path of recovery, which was broken when the later was out for 10 with the score showing 33 for 2. However, skipper Sandhya Mounika struck form and had a partnership of 95 runs for the third wicket with opener Moumee Sasmal, who scored a patient 36 off 84 balls. Another partnership of 82 runs for the fourth wicket between Sandhya and Payal Balmik (27 off 38 balls) took to the score to 210 when the later was dismissed.
With Sandhya Mounika remaining unbeaten on 111 off 130 balls, with 16 fours, Puducherry posted a massive total of 255 for 5 off 50 overs.
Rebecca and Moumee Sasmal devastate Mizoram
In pursuit of 256 for a win, Mizoram was devastated by Puducherry bowler Rebecca, who took 4 for 12 off 8 overs and Moumee Sasmal, who returned with a haul of 4 wickets for 7 runs off 6 overs. Mizoram was bundled for 46 off 31 overs. Puducherry won the match by a huge margin of 209 runs and gained 4 points.
