Mumbai, 16 Nov’19:
Winning the toss and opting to bowl first was a handy tool for Pondicherry skipper D.Rohit to know the target in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Assam. The Pondicherry bowlers Vinay Kumar and Fabid Ahmed immediately responded by removing the top half of Assam batting line up as the score read 28 for 6 in the ninth over. A short, but much needed partnership of 60 runs for the 7th wicket added some respectability to the score card and Assam was eventually bundled out for 102 in the penultimate over their innings.
Vinay Kumar returned with figures of 4 for 4 off 3.4 overs and Fabid Ahmed took 3 for 21 off four overs.
In pursuit of 103 for a win, though Pondicherry was jolted with the loss of three early wickets of Arun Karthik, Rohit and Karthik Sukumaran, with the score showing 37 for 3, Paras Dogra, who remained unbeaten on 38 and Anand Subramanian scoring 32 runs were not perturbed by the jolt and took the team to safety.
